The Namit Journals: Cafe 1925, Silay City

Headed north towards the Paris of Negros, Silay City boasts of its grandeur in preserving Filipino culture and heritage. Tawidtayo simply had to revisit and see what the people are talking about. As we open a new series here in the site, our first feature is truly worth blogging – Silay City’s Cafe 1925.

Located at the heart of the city, the little spot is cozy and inviting – dining there feels like eating in a Tita’s house or a friend’s front porch. The food they serve is unbelievably gluttonous – they’ve got main courses for lunch or dinner, sandwiches, pastas and desserts. Little Paris, Silay City

Silay City paris of NegrosWasting a few shots as we passed by Silay on the way up north was never regretable. Because of the usual stopovers of the buses near the marketplace, a few shots at the corner building indeed gave us a magnificent view of the city from a different angle. Quoting it as “little Paris”, the accidental snapshots framed the intricate architectural design of Silay establishments.

Silay is indeed known for preserving the Spanish colonial feel of the city and its streets. From houses to street signs and window panes, no other place can better depict history than Silay City.

Silay City paris of NegrosThe best P 14 ever spent was on a jeepney ride up to Silay City, in less than an hour from the capital city. The enormous structure of the Pro-Cathedral welcomes travelers into the heart of the city proper and who could ever resist the roadside treats surrounding it? Especially that fronting the church was their plaza, most people were there lounging on the sunny afternoon.
