The Namit Journals: Cafe 1925, Silay City

Headed north towards the Paris of Negros, Silay City boasts of its grandeur in preserving Filipino culture and heritage. Tawidtayo simply had to revisit and see what the people are talking about. As we open a new series here in the site, our first feature is truly worth blogging – Silay City’s Cafe 1925.

Located at the heart of the city, the little spot is cozy and inviting – dining there feels like eating in a Tita’s house or a friend’s front porch. City of Shells, Sagay City

Sagay City is a bit far from the capital city but the fun had started before even we got there. We took the “double-tire” or Cebro bus from Talisay City (7 KM from Bacolod City) thinking it would be faster than getting on at the terminal but then we had to transfer from one bus or another twice upon reaching Victorias City and Manapla. What’s even funnier is that we got lost! But all of that was just the beginning of our sneak peek at the City of Shells up north.

After the exhausting ride, we headed straight to Enting’s Special of Sagay, the city’s premiere restaurant famous for its grilled chicken and home-cooked Pinoy dishes. One of the basic reasons we went there was the oh-so-sinful chicken skin, crunchy and yummy. Then with full tummies, we headed out for a walk through the city plaza with the actual old train which has been there since the 1980’s. The display was to remind the Sagaynons of their humble roots and the development the city has had over the years from being an agricultural community to the multi-industrial crossroad that it has become today. continue reading »
