The Namit Journals: Cafe 1925, Silay City
Headed north towards the Paris of Negros, Silay City boasts of its grandeur in preserving Filipino culture and heritage. Tawidtayo simply had to revisit and see what the people are talking about. As we open a new series here in the site, our first feature is truly worth blogging – Silay City’s Cafe 1925.
Located at the heart of the city, the little spot is cozy and inviting – dining there feels like eating in a Tita’s house or a friend’s front porch. The food they serve is unbelievably gluttonous – they’ve got main courses for lunch or dinner, sandwiches, pastas and desserts. Getting to decide on what to order is a bit challenging, they do cook
the food as you order it which means they bake it as you choose it. And boy can they bake! They do brew a pretty hearty serving of pasta for a small city cafe.
The interior of Cafe 1925 is filled with paintings of the city landmarks famous all over the country, showcasing the city plaza, the Pro-Cathedral, the Balay Negrense and other ancestral homes within the vicinity. Try their brewed coffee and you’ll wish that you had this cafe in your neighborhood. It is
an up and coming spot filled with the locals in a lazy afternoon. Get the great view at table situated in the lanai, perfect for talks and chuckles with dear friends and family.
Price-wise, items in the menu cost more or less around two hundred bucks for a single dish but then it is fairly reasonable since they do make real pasta. No one
goes all the way to the next city for a so-so meal, right? Silay City is full of great spots for eating, but Cafe 1925 is a definite stopover to and from the airport.
Must-try: Chicken Pesto. And all their pastas, for that matter.
The Hidden Menu: They actually have a different specialty every week and specialty desserts are available, too. Ask the waiter or glance at their chalk board to know what’s cooking for the week.

Getting there: Cafe 1925 is located at J. Pitong Ledesma Street, Silay City. From if riding a Bacolod to Silay jeepney, go down and cross the highway at the BPI Silay Branch. From the corner of the bank, walk a few steps into JP Ledesma Street and you won’t miss Cafe 1925 with its big sign in front.
