How to Travel During the Rainy Season

June 25th, 2010 Posted in Events, Photography, Travel

As we say goodbye to our trusted flipflops and say hello to the rainy months, the end of the summer season may be gloomy for travelers, especially the ones who had to go back to school. For us here in TawidTayo, traveling cannot be ceased by dark clouds and simple drizzles.

Here is a list of reminders for traveling during the rainy season. Read on!

Take pride in reliable rain gear. Wind-resistant umbrellas, weather-proof footwear and double-lined bags are great investments for serious travelers. Before leaving shelter, make sure you are prepared to get drenched. We can’t fight it, traveling is different with the rain but it does make the journey an unforgettable one.

Waterproofing is a must. Don’t wrap everything into one single bag, separate and prioritize. Electronic gadgets and money should have their own containers to be embedded in the driest part of the bag. Hence, bring along extra plastic bags or ziplock bags. If you are going into the woods, garbage bags are a big help in waterproofing the traveler himself.

Check, confirm and recheck. In planning, weather forecasts should be checked from more than one source. Try logging on to PAGASA, BBC and other popular sites for weather information and 5-day forecasts. Even during the last hour before the trip, still check for latest advancements to ensure no storm or typhoon is headed your way. Don’t force diving in when there is a serious weather condition, no use forcing it if there isn’t any means of travel available.

Travel within a click. If Mr. Sun still isn’t showing up, you can still travel through the web. Browse through blogs, forums and sites dedicated for travelers and adventure-seekers alike. Get to plan your next adventure and read on updates of the places you have been to before. On the bright side, you get to stay warm and dry without spending a fortune on fare and accommodations.

Hope you have learned a thing or two on how to ensure that your wanderlust isn’t affected by the monsoon months ahead. Besides, the weatherman said we might be in for a long rainy season here so gather your goodies and join in as we continue our journey of food, culture and life.
